2012 olympics games
First row sports - Asafa Powell is another Jamaican athlete, another title contender. Unlike others, Powell has tasted the sweet glory right before the uprising of Usain Bolt. Powell`s special discipline is 100 m. He held the world record June 2005th and May 2008th. His record set in Lausanne in 2005th was 9.72 s. He has competed in two Summer Olympics- in Athens 2004th and Beijing 2008th. Both times he could not win something more than a place in the Finals. The Powell`s troubles are not with his opponents, but mostly with himself. It is a fact that he suffers from pre-race anxiety and it has ruined many of his performances. If he finds enough strength and self determination he could turn his probably last Olympics into the most successive tournament. Many specialists accuse him of lack of mental strength, strong enough to win something from the Olympics. His record on 100 m. put him all of a sudden in the list of title pretenders. During the Athens Olympics he finished 5th and the critics have come his way. He had four years to prove them wrong, winning titles in major Athletic tournaments, In Beijing, 2008th Powell failed to move further than the 5th place. Right before the Finals, Powell in his style ignored the critics and said that he has met the same opponents on the track during all these years, winning against them. The Olympics are the incarnation of the modern world aim for perfection. Powell is not a perfect man, but he is still human being- able to overcome his weaknesses and become a better man. There is a timetable of the Powell`s best records during his career. According it, Powell is getting better year after year. There is no doubt that he is one of the contenders for the 100m. title. The Powell`s power is nowhere, but inside him.
